About Barbara

More than three decades in public accounting has taught me that the most valuable work often happens before the tax return is prepared.

Born and raised in Idaho, I began my career in public accounting in January 1992, primarily serving individuals and small business owners.  Since 2001, I have been a CPA in public practice, and my practice has evolved from a traditional tax and accounting practice into one centered on ongoing advisory relationships.

I believe the best work begins with understanding what is happening in a client's life or business, asking questions, and having conversations before decisions are made whenever possible.  Although tax preparation remains an important part of my work, it is the planning, problem solving, and long-term client relationships that define my practice.

Staying Current

Tax law and accounting rules don't stand still, and neither can the professionals who work with them.  I typically earn well beyond the minimum continuing professional education required by the state each year.

That does not mean that I will always know the answer immediately.  When I don't, I will tell you -- and then I will research it.  When I do know the answer, I can often point you directly to the authority or materials behind it.  I take the responsibility of staying current in my profession seriously because my clients rely on the advice I give them.

Away from the Office

When I am not working with clients, you will usually find me either helping Steve rehabilitate injured or orphaned squirrels (those little guys below are three of our success stories) — or making something.  I created Atalanta's Table as a home for my cardmaking and other creative projects.  It is where accounting gives way to paper, ink, and whatever happens to be on the Table that day.
